Headplay Personal Cinema System - Image 1

Headplay is probably every couch potato's dream. Imagine a TV. Now imagine being able to take it anywhere and everywhere you go (except perhaps in the shower), and being able to watch movies or play games on it anytime you want. That's the concept for the new "Personal Cinema System" device, Headplay.

Headplay is a head-mounted device; basically, a TV you wear on your head. You can connect it to your gaming consoles, your DVD Player, your iPod, your PC, and maybe your Betamax player if it hasn't choked on dust yet. If it has a video out function, Headplay can most probably display it. You can also plug in a memory stick and Headplay can run the media files - movies, videos, and images - with its own built-in player.

Once you're behind the lenses of Headplay it's pretty easy to just relax and go dead to the world around you. It's nothing but you and the screen, with the stereo sounds blocking off everything else. It's like your own movie screen inside your living room.

Jonathan Creative Technology worked with Johnathan "Fatal1ty" Wendel to make the Fatal1ty Gaming Headset. We're pretty sure that if a gamer like Fatal1ty were asked how a headset should be like, it will truly reflect what gamers need and want in a headset for optimum performance in competitive gaming.

The Fatal1ty Gaming Headset is designed not only for performance in gaming, but also for comfort. Johnathan "Fatal1ty" Wendel says that "The Fatal1ty Gaming Headset enhances my arsenal by enabling me to capture every audio detail, so I can predict where my opponent will be and beat him to the shot." Wendel is a professional gamer who's won five World Championships in different games.

The headset has precise audio positioning, a detachable noise-canceling mic, and a wind screen. Says Darragh O’Toole, European Product Group Manager with Creative,

By incorporating large 40mm Neodymium drivers, the Fatal1ty Gaming Headset keeps the player on the edge of the seat with earth-shattering explosions and sharp sniper shots, while voice commands are crisp and clear. The detachable mic is totally flexible, plus it includes a wind screen to filter out unwanted noise.

Keep posted for more updates on this gadget.

gaming head gear - Image 1 Do you feel cheated that while game developers/publishers promise something new and something revolutionary about gaming, you're still stuck with your eyes on the screen and a controller on your hand - something you've been doing for years.

Never worry...this little gadget'll probably make you feel a little better about life and gaming; at least right until the novelty of it wears off or when you start hearing your friends laughing behind your back.

Icuiti's VR920, winner of the 2007 CES innovations award, is a headset that features a virtual 62-inch display viewed at nine feet, noise canceling microphone for internet VOIP communications, headphones that can be upgraded or removed to allow the user to plug in their own headset, and as much Geordi LaForge references you could think of.

The VR920 is designed for use with a laptop or a standard PC through a USB and VGA connection. We're not really sure how you could switch from PC gaming to checking walkthroughs without leaving your game with this thing on your head. The social aspect of gaming being eliminated by this gadget won't be much of a problem since...well, must gaming always be physically social? Still, this must be a good try for playing MMOs like World of Warcraft. Just don't ask the author about what it could do to your eyesight since I wear glasses myself.

The VR920 is still to come, so there'll be plenty of time for you practicing on how to play like the game is in your head with your peripheral vision cut off. Kind of like those '90s virtual reality games minus the zombie limb movements - that's a plus, I guess.

Wow it glows

A blogger named "SHH" has a post on his aptly-named blog "nooneswatchingyou right now", describing his take on the Xbox 360 Wireless Headset. He had this to say about it:

The headset came with a charger and another piece for the ear, the quality is excellent its louder and it connect to the xbox directly through the wireless i thought the wireless part would be connected to teh controller but it connects just like an xbox remote. The ear piece is flexible and kinda annoying if you don't get it on right they are interchangeable and probably will have different ones in the future.none the less it's great i don't know if it was worth 60 bucks, maybe 49.99 You can also see the battery meter on the xbox guide pretty cool...

For what the Headset has to offer, we think the price is reasonable. It isn't a bargain (far from it), but you get what you pay for. Nothing big and spectacular, no parting of the Red Sea or whatever. Just a decent deal given that the thing comes with a charger.

So what do you guys think? Is the 60 buck price-tag of this thing worth it? The guys from Penny-Arcade already have their take on it; needless to say, it was comedic. But that's their view, what do you, the QJ readers, feel? Is the 60 bucks worth the louder, and glowy wireless headset?

X-SPORT BTH-11The same company that brought us the X-SPORT Bluetooth headset series, Teling Technology Ltd., adds another one yet again. Known as BTH-11, this might be the only headset in the market that has a wireless range of 20 to 30 meters.

Audio quality was improved by introducing a unique tube design for the microphone that aids in noise cancellation, not to mention its integrated echo cancellation technology. Design is also optimally used, as the portable power bank serves as the holder for the headset as well. Talk time is up to 18 hours while it lasts 500 hours in standby.

A rather unique feature is the vibration cradle. Most Bluetooth headsets don't come in with this. Comfort was also put into consideration as the headset weighs only 8.8 grams and comes with three differently-sized earplugs.

pulsarIf your old Bluetooth headset isn't giving you the stereo sound quality you deserve, then perhaps you should wait in line for the Pulsar 590E Stereo Bluetooth. The headset doubles as a hands free device where you can answer or end calls with one click of a button.

With the Pulsar 590E's telescoping voice tube, conversations are guaranteed to be loud and clear. The best part is that there are no messy wires or obtrusive adapters to contend with - that is if your mobile phone comes with an Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP).

While you might think that carrying it around is a pain because it looks bulky, the headset is actually quite handy with its foldable design. It also has dedicated buttons so that you can access calls and music control functions on the headset itself. With Audio Visual Remote Control Profile (AVRCP), you can remotely control functions like mute, volume level or track forward/back.

With 12 hours of talk time and 10 hours of listening time, the  Pulsar 590E is one headset you'd want to bring along with you wherever you go. It'll be available in August for $139.95.
