hv-10Right now, HD Camcorders are still toys for the big boys with deep pockets. But this coming September, the common man (or those to which the concept of deep pockets is uncommon, anyway) may soon get to play with the next-gen camcorder thanks to Canon's HV10. The HV10 shoots full 1080i HD and, at $1299, qualifies as the company's first consumer-oriented HD camcorder.

The HV-10 features:
  • Super Range optical image stabilization
  • Optical zoom extending 10x optical and 200x digital
  • 1/2.7-inch CMOS sensor for better colors
  • Instant AF for very fast and accurate focusing
  • Canon HD F1.8 – F3.0 lens with a 37mm filter diameter
Additional attractions include the upright, compact style of Canon's Optura 600, a 2.7-inch LCD display, miniSD slot (card not included), a number of Program AE modes, video light, histogram display, zebra patterns, and grid markers. It is a couple of hundred bucks cheaper than Sony's second-gen, entry-level HDR-HC3 which practically has the same features.
