Microsoft drops Zune prices to USD 199 - Image 1Microsoft has announced that it will be dropping the Zune's MSRP down to US$ 199. The company has given word that they've been planning this for some time now, clarifying that it's just a part of the product's lifecycle. Those who haven't had the chance to pick one up might want to consider doing so at this point.

This device plays music and videos, displays pictures, has a built-in FM receiver, and can shares files with other Zunes and Xbox 360s. It comes with a 30 GB hard drive and has a three-inch QVGA LCD screen with a resolution of up to 320x240.

For those who like to match their gadgets with their clothes, the Zune comes in various colors from black to pink. Halo fans would be pleased to know that a Halo version of the product is slated to be released as well.

All in all, a pretty solid package if you're in the market for a portable multimedia player. If you plan on picking one up, note that it is restricted to interfacing with the Windows platform because of its proprietary MTP protocol. So if you're running MAC OS X or Linux, you might want to look elsewhere.

Dodge Viper and the Inspiration - the top 2 fastest alternative-fuel cars in the world - Image 1Dodge Viper and the Inspiration - the top 2 fastest alternative-fuel cars in the world - Image 2

A few of years back people were doubtful about the popularity of alternative fuel automobiles. Critics say that it will never match traditional gasoline-powered automobiles in both popularity and power. Well, those critics may just have to eat their own words as ten of the fastest "green" cars show just how fast they can get on the road without an ounce of gasoline in their tanks.

The image on top speaks for itself. Nothing says "powerful" better than a Dodge Viper. Especially now that this ethanol-powered vehicle was able to break the standing-mile speed record, which coincidentally belonged to a modified gas-powered Viper coupe.

Here's a short list of the other vehicles that have pushed themselves into the list of the world's fastest alternative-fuel based automobiles:
  1. E85 Viper - ethanol-powered with a top speed of 2320.7 mph
  2. British Steam Car Inspiration - steam-powered (via liquid propane) with a top speed of 215
  3. Ford Fusion Hydrogen 999 - hydrogen fuel cell with a top speed of 207.3 mph
  4. Audi R10 TDI - biodiesel-powered with a top speed of 204.5 mph
  5. Toyota Landspeed Prius - gasoline-electric hybrid with a top speed of 130.8 mph
  6. Tesla Roadster - plug-in electric-powered with a top speed of 130 mph
  7. Nuon Solar Team "Nuna4" - solar-powered with a top speed of 80 mph
  8. Volvo Aria - gravity-powered with a top speed of 54 mph
  9. FM-4 HumanCar - human-powered with a top speed of 30 mph cruising and 50 mph downhill
  10. Venturi Eclectic - wind and solar combination with a top speed of 31 mph

This just reminded me about mood rings. The new Toshiba U103 Gigabeat digital audio player comes in 24 different colors to suit your mood, including pink if you're feeling a little "tickled pink" when you buy one. That's more than three times a rainbow's basic colors and four times more than the six different colors the PSP Slim will be available in (in Japan). It's also what you get when you half the number 48 or double 12.

In terms of capabilities and features, there isn't much difference with the U102 except for the availability of 24 colors. Supported formats are the staples MP3, WAV and WMA. It's also an FM tuner and comes with 1GB of storage. The screen measures 1.1 x 1.1 inches. It's now out in Japan for JP¥14,000 (US$ 116).

Samsung YP-U3 - Image 1Isn't consumer choice just a powerful thing? And while USB-type MP3 players are a dime a dozen out there, you still can't deny the fact that different strokes will work for different audiophile folks. Each one has their own preference, standards of practicality, and budgetary allowances.

And so, not letting consumer choice get the better of them, Samsung Electronics is giving another option to plug into the consumers' ears. The electronics manufacturing giant just rolled out their YP-U3 line of MP3 players, available in five different colors (see picture).

The YP-U3 comes in storage capacities of 1GB, 2GB, and 4GB and can connect to PCs via USB to transfer songs and charge the device itself. It also has a voice recording feature (66 hours at 1GB/32kbps) and an FM radio tuner.

Ah yes, consumer choice. It's also what drives big time manufacturers to employ the help of female Korean models to show of their devices.

the ElekTex fabric sensor - Image 1

You want some cool new peripherals for your portable audio gizmos? Then check out these newbies on the block from Eleksen. They have just announced the launch of their new smart fabric modules that is molded to cater to your discerning audio gadgets tastes.

The first one is their electronics module for FM radio. It's basically a stand-alone FM radio unit, whose control is based on the new ElekTex fabric sensor, with the Interface technology incorporated in it. This Elektexis an electro-conductive fabric touchpad, and can be used as a kind of housing protector for your electronic gadget. The sensor on its jacket sleeve or backpack handle allows you to control your gadget from your pocket.

And then, there's an "updated electronics modules for iPod and iPod + Bluetooth devices." Another add-on for the ever-popular iPod, eh? Let's see how this measures up. Now, this also takes advantage of the ElekTex sensor, which, as explained earlier, can be embedded into a lot of other apparel and soft-goods accessories. To be more precise, it is "programmable and compatible with a range of electronics including iPods, smartphones, and other personal digital devices."

That's all the info we have on this for now, but we'll be sure to keep you updated on more bits as they come.
