Pioneer has finally revealed the Blu-ray player that they hinted at with the launch of the BDP-LX70. The new player is called the BDP-LX80, and here are the pertinent info on it. Pioneer's BDP-LX80 Blu-ray player supports bitstream output of both Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD high resolution lossless audio output over HDMI 1.3. The player doesn't have DTS-HD Master Audio, though, and in order to really take advantage of it you'll need a home system capable of decoding those signals. That's something that potential buyers should confirm before taking the plunge and getting the BDP-LX80. Early reports about the player have noted that the BDP-LX80 seems to be a mere firmware update for the LX70, so you might want to see further reviews when the player drops in Japan in October. It currently carries a suggested retail price of 210,000 Yen (about US$ 1,770). A global launch for the player has not yet been announced. |

A lot of people give themselves gifts for their birthday, no big deal. Now as for one particular Xbox 360 owner, he got himself something a lot of racing fans can only dream of: the perfect racing set-up for the Xbox 360.
This set up involves an Xbox 360, a racing wheel, leather seats, a Dolby 5.1 surround sound speaker set-up, and three Samsung HDTVs linked together. When we got a glimpse of the picture he sent in to Gizmodo, our jaws literally dropped to the floor. How he was able to split the feed into three monitors is still a mystery to the guys at Gizmodo and to us as well. Anyway, here's the picture of his place so you can start planning on how you're going to start saving up for an awesome setup like this one. |

The North American HD DVD Promotional Group announced in an official press release that the sales of HD DVD players exceeded 100,000 units sold in the U.S. It was announced that HD DVD was the first to break that sales barrier in the consumer electronics industry, "ahead of any other high definition format." This announcement also marks the first anniversary of the HD DVD format. It was roughly put, however, is that these sales do not include the HD DVD drive sales for the PC or the HD DVD drives sold for the Xbox 360. Toshiba, the company behind HD DVD, also announced to be the first to bring high definition DVD prices down to below the US$ 400 tag. Jodi Sally, VP of marketing of Toshiba America Consumer Products, said, that retailer feedback shows that the lowered price has increased sales volume for April. "On Amazon.com, our HD DVD players continue to rank among the top ten best sellers of all DVD players, which says a lot about how consumers relate to price," she added. Complementing the rapid growth of sales for HDTVs, Toshiba has been driving sales with strategic prising and marketing in mind. Banking on the many features inherent to HD DVD, including network connection, picture-in-picture, persistent storage, and decode support for Dolby's proprietary True HD format, Toshiba also offers original DVD format movies alongside HD format movies in a single HD DVD disc for true backward-compatibility playback. More than 70 new titles in HD DVD format are expected to be released at the end of July, bringing the amount of HD DVD movie titles to more than 300 by summer of 2007. "The Complete Matrix Trilogy," from Warner Home Video, is expected to arrive in HD DVD format by next month. |

Toshiba has announced their new product, TDP-ET20U DLP. Say whaaaat?Okay, TDP stands for Toshiba Digital Products. ET20U is the name of the actual product, and DLP means Digital Light Processing. Whew. But what this REALLY means is that the company has launched its first all-in-one mobile multimedia DVD projector. This all-in-one multimedia DVD projector allows users to play movies directly from it with its 5.1-channel Dolby Pro Logic surround sound system. According to Toshiba, what makes this projector unique is that it has an RGB port for easy PC connections as well as an HDMI port. The TDP-ET20U also allows you to play your games on a 100-inch diagonal screen image (do I hear jaws dropping?100-inch screen?) Yep, this projector can display images from 3.9 feet away, ideal not just for your gaming quirks but for sports events and good old boob tube viewing. There should be no worries about image angles because the TDP-ET20U projects the images upward at a 130-degree angle. Weighing 10.6 pounds, it's relatively easy to carry around and use it anywhere. The Toshiba TDP-ET20U will be
available at retail stores next month, but if you want one now ('coz you really just can't wait), you can get one at Toshiba's authorized distributors, VARs,
mail-order outlets and www.ToshibaDirect.com. Whether it's really worth the $1,399 you'd be shelling out, you decide. |
