In a string of luck, AMD's best graphics solution for this season comes a good three weeks before Spore and Crysis Warhead has a chance to whisper, "Peek-a-boo!" You can bet that every brand out there who's been sticking with ATI video cards has a special kit for you bleeding edge techies, but just how much moolah are we going to shell out for a Radeon HD 4870 X2? AMD isn't done serving the little market they managed to carve out of an idea brought about by Epic Games' Mark Rein. While folks new to the scene are probably still getting down and dirty with their AMD 780-based boards, the Germany-based company decided it was time to hike the bar a bit higher with the 790GX. Details come at you at the full story. |

It's like a geek's dream come true - two ladies you've always wanted for the price (and mass-energy ratio) of one. Or something like that. While Intel's really busy with Larabee, the Germany-based Advanced Micro Devices decided that they could do with their own version of CPU-GPU technology. Everyone expected this from the beginning: the unison of CPU (AMD) and the GPU (ATI) into a mesmerizing package. How it took this long to come to realization, you won't find out at the full story. Read on for more claims, instead. |

Okay, so it's not the biggest gun that NVIDIA's got in their arsenal yet, but seeing as AMD is solidly taking the lead in the performance per unit price race, this was expected. You might recall that the NVIDIA GeForce 9800 wasn't as greatly embraced by the 8800 GTX crowd when the first benched numbers spilled on the Internet. NVIDIA took the G92-spec card and made two SKUs out of the process: a 9800 GTX+ and a 9800 GT. More at the full story. |

Coming up on the PC menu today is an update from Advanced Micro Devices for the Catalyst driver set. You lucky folks who've managed to nab a Radeon HD 4850 or a 4870 recently would be happy to hear this, because the driver engineers at ATI have really squeezed more performance from your boards via optimizations. Check out what the hardware enthusiasts have after updating their video drivers. |

Holy crap. Simply holy crap. We all know that AMD is particularly late for the next-generation graphics party, but the company's counterparts for NVIDIA's 9800 GTX have finally arrived, and from preliminary launch copies, we hear they're blasting the competition away. Diamond seems to be one of the first companies to let loose its primary ATI Radeon HD 4870 SKU, but is it worth the upgrade? Learn more at the full story. |

Did you hear that? Jaws from just about every part of the globe dropped in unison. But we suppose the chins slammed to floors first in Taiwan, where the first images and initial specifications of the long-rumored NVIDIA GeForce 9800 card erupted. Need to know more? Head on over to full story, but if you've just spent your last savings on a GeForce 8xxx series card last Christmas, the experience may be tear-inducing. |

No, we don't mean the computer's built in a cereal box - which would be quite a unique mod casing for a PC, no doubt. But Taiwan-based Shuttle, well-known for manufacturing small form factor PCs for cramped spaces and tiny desks, has packed the XPC X100 into a casing the size and general dimensions of a typical cereal box. It's not a Tablet; it's not made out of notebook parts; it's a full-blown and functional CPU. Call this baby the Mac Mini of the PC world - or as close as it can get to that standard. You want specific dimensions? Try two inches thick, and height and width about that of a standard sheet of paper, A4-sized. Check the picture to the left (from the Shuttle website): it fits neatly inside a magazine rack. And whoever said "size matters" didn't see what this puppy packs inside. For $700, you get an Intel Celeron M processor, 512MB memory, and an 80-gig hard drive - a fully functional 3.5" hard drive, not those smaller notebook drives that are often used to cut down on space. Ante up the price (more or less up to $1,000, depending on user specifications) and you get a faster processor - all the way up to Core 2 Duo - a full gigabyte of memory, and 250 gigs of hard drive space. Both versions will ship with a 4-in-1 memory card reader, ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 graphics card, and 7.1 channel surround-sound audio outputs, as well as a slim-slot DVD read/write drive. An Intel Pro/Wireless LAN card is optional. The computer is also Vista-ready. And this machine can hook up to a television, if you want to turn the X100 into the heart of your home entertainment system. Now, how do you like them computer chips in the morning, Tony the Tiger? |
