The TomTom Duo - GPS and music docking station in one - Image 1The GPS folks of TomTom introduced a whole new device called the TomTom Duo, a device that is mounted on your car's stereo dash - touchscreen facing out - and that should serve as a GPS system for the modern car. But wait, it's also claimed that the TomTom Duo will support a unique USB docking station.

The station could scan the surrounding area for Bluetooth devices, "allow direct control of iPods" and allow you to route audio of any portable device through the car's speaker system...all from the little touchscreen on the TomTom Duo!

The TomTom Duo will also allow hands-free calling through Bluetooth phones and the playing of music straight from USB storage devices. The Duo will succeed the TomTom One as a whole new dual-purpose in-car device.

tom tom one

Back in April, LaptopMag gave a review of the TomTom GO 910. Now, TMCnet released its review of TomTom ONE, another portable GPS navigation unit.

Now, you might want to know exactly how portable it is. Well, it's reported to be so handy it can fit in your shirt pocket. This touch screen-enabled lightweight unit features a slim design, so you could virtually take it anywhere with you without much of a hassle.

Its features?
  • SD card slot
  • Version 5 Navigator Software
  • Mini-USB
  • reset button
  • power connection
  • better connectivity and memory options
  • Bluetooth support for TomTom PLUS services
  • access to TomTom PLUS services (such as real-time traffic, updates on road conditions and weather reports)
How does it differ with the TomTom GO? Well for one, it makes use of the SiRFStarIII GPS chipset, which is known to be more sensitive than the TomTom GO's chipset. Another diff you might notice is that the ONE has a slimmer and more handy design than the GO. However, a downside pointed out by our source is that the ONE's battery life only lasts for two hours, while the GO can keep running until five hours. But the ONE is reportedly more cheaper than the GO, so users might consider this one instead.

The TomTom ONE will hit stores in the US at the latter part of this month for $499.
