DS 1seg TV tuner - Image 1The Nintendo DS 1seg TV tuner in Japan caused quite a ruckus over demand. Online order placement for the DS/DSLite attachment were opened a few weeks back without any announcement whatsoever, but still, traffic flooded in.

Meanwhile, a recent survey conducted reveals that only 18% of the DS population want the TV tuner... But considering the sheer size of the DS population itself, the "only 18%" goes a loooong way indeed!

Sharp unveils Blu-ray recorder decked with 1 TB storage - Image 1Be it the AQUOS BD-AV1 or the BD-AV10, you'll get 1 Terrabyte of hard drive storage to boot. These new Blu-ray player-recorders from Sharp pushes the envelope for capacity in-house, though the AV10 will be your choice for premium capacity on recording - it supports dual-layer Blu-ray burning.

Otherwise, both units will come with a single digital TV tuner, one HDMI port, a single FireWire (IEEE 1394) port, and an assortment of connectors for the usual composite connections to standard players and television sets.

The AV10 comes in at a hefty US$ 1,040 price tag (JPY 120,000) and US$ 865 (JPY 100,000) for the AV1. Prices get slashed by approximately 50% if the versions without the hard drive are picked up. We're not sure where the new units will hit first, but these babies will most likely appear in Japanese electronic entertainment stores before anywhere else.

credit card installation--haha! - Image 1Now all ye landlubbers out there probably know that the whole new Windows experience is going to become one whole bank-breaking one. But the Chinese seem to have it good - up to July 2007 that is.

So what flavors does the Vista come in? There's Home, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate. And because the Vista consumer editions are slated to come out on January 30, we thought we'd take a look at the consumer's choices.

Home Premium is reasonably priced for its features, but it just couldn't cut the cake with some networking and hardware failure prevention features taken out. The complete Vista experience would only be available in the Ultimate Edition which struts around in a US$ 399 price tag (plus a TV tuner is required). There's just got to be a cheaper option.

And voila! There is a cheaper way. Checking Microsoft's web site, a cheaper, basic version of Vista is available for all new computer users and low-income markets. It's dubbed as Starter Edition. It's not feature-rich, but it's affordable in the most legal sense.

You can follow up on the Read link to check up on the editions available and what you can get out of each. Oh, and about the picture, don't worry, it's not true. But it sure feels like it, doesn't it?

What these things do is that they allow you to play your console games in real time through your PC or laptop. If you've ever wanted to play your GameCube, PlayStation2, Xbox, or Xbox 360 games using your laptop or PC, then you might want to check this out.

Among its other features, it also allows you to record your gameplay in MPEG-1 format as well as take screenshots at will. The AVC-1410 allows you to record video in both MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 format depending on your settings. Most solutions for playing games through your PC and Laptop are very costly and have input-lag time but the GameBridge boasts of zero lag and games can be played in up to 1024x768 resolution.

Yet another interesting contraption for all those who love playing games.

Ó

A company called Qrio have released what seems to be a very stylish DMB portable TV. Called the QT-9, it measures a very slimline 9.8mm and supports a wide crisp 3.5" QVGA screen. Rival models including the iRiver B10 only have 2.2" screens and have a 17.1mm thickness. There is a single built in speaker and an extendable aerial. Details show that there will be two colours available, pink and black. By taking advantage of the H.264 coding format, the DMB (Digital Multimedia Broadcast) TV uses a terrestrial signal to send you a crisp signal courtesy of ground transmitters.

No details on release date and price are not yet available, however expect this to be a Korea only product. Rival units retails for between $120-160 so therefore it would be logical to think this will follow suit. Be warned, those who think they can get the Korean model and bring it to Europe or the US, think again, besides the DMB service not being fully operational, these countries require subscription of sorts. Again following rival models, battery life should be in the region of 3 to 5 hours.
