Wolf King Keyboard - Image 1We've had our share of seeing strange keyboards, and most of them are created with the intention of looking cool and making things easier for the user. However, some keyboards fall short of the "making things easier" part, and Wolf King's new keyboard submitted to the FCC looks no different at first glance. Read on to find out more!

i-mate's QWERTY cellphone bombshells: Ultimate 8502, 9502 - Image 1A good old one-two to divert the attention away from the competition would be similar to what Ultimate series creators i-Mate did recently: drop two high-end bombshells. Introducing i-Mate's Ultimate 8502 and 9502, two QWERTY high-end cellphones running on Windows Mobile 6 operating system and sporting a specifications set like other sweet features decked on the competition's bleeding edge mobiles.

The 8502 and 9502 go all out black, though the 9502 (image to your right) sports quad-band GSM, 3.5G connectivity, and tri-band HSUPA powered through Microsoft's Windows Mobile 6 operating system. It also comes with a video out port aside from providing crystal clear, crisp images through its sliding VGA LCD display, and LED flash for still captures.

But yes, it also jogs all the way down to the 2.5 millimeter audio jack, which doesn't quite broaden your headset options.

The 8502 in contrast touts a more simplistic design (no slide-down LCD screen), though its feature set is anything but simplistic. Aside from the usual WiFi, GPS, and Bluetooth connectivity, you get 256 MB ROM and 128 MB RAM from the get-go, plus the 9502's 400 MHz Qualcomm processor. The camera slices down to a 2.0 megapixels from the 9502's 3.0 megapixel camera.

There are no details yet on price and retail shipping yet, so we can't tell you how much moolah you'll have to burn for i-Mate's new muscle gizmos. But as soon as they come up, we'll let you know. For now, feel free to visit i-Mate's website to take a gander at these beauties. The link redirects you to the Ultimate 9502 section.

Grundig B700 - Image 1

While it does look a bit like a calculator, the Grundig B700 manages to pack in quite a lot of goodies into its rather thin housing. Measuring in at less than half an inch thick, the Linux-powered B700 features the requisite QWERTY keyboard and 2-megapixel camera with 4x zoom that you can find in almost every smartphone today.

It also features a POP3 Email Push Client and a program called SureType, which works almost exactly like the Blackberry. Other features include mp3 playback capability, FM radio receiver, and a 2.4-inch QVGA screen. While the B700's internal memory is only a mere 100MB, the inclusion of a Micro SD card slot means that you can expand it to 1GB.

The B700 also has Bluetooth connectivity, as well as a USB port that'll come in handy when you need to transfer files between your smartphone and PC fast.

The thin smart phoneThe WCG world wide sponsor Samsung decided to present its latest Windows Mobile smart phone, the SGH-i320N, at a press event in Singapore recently. The i320N, said to be Samsung's answer to the highly anticipated Moto Q, sports a chassis that is just 11.5mm thin, making the mobile one of the lightest and slimmest smart phones in the market.

If you go by the specifications, the Moto Q is 0.5mm thicker than Samsung's. Well that's competition for you.

The i320N has a built in 1.3 megapixel CMOS camera, a QWERTY keypad, the Windows Mobile 5.0 OS installed, a speaker phone, a QVGA screen, and of course Bluetooth.

Without the slightest bit of triskaidekaphobia (that's fear of the number 13), Samsung will have the phone ready for sale in Singapore starting Friday, October 13 (their time of course) at the recommended retail price of $ 380.46.

MyloSony is set to release a wireless, handheld device mostly aimed at younger people who use instant messaging, named Mylo (which stands for 'My Life Online'). The pocket-sized gadget features a slide-up 2.4-inch screen with a QWERTY keyboard underneath, VOIP capabilities via Skype, web access (to browse the internet and send emails), media playback capabilities (including music, photos and videos), 1GB flash, and a memory slot. This device will only be available in the United States. The instant messaging feature will use Yahoo Messenger and Google Talk.

Mylo will be available in black or white, does not require computer setup or a monthly service contract, hence it cannot be used for mobile telephone calls. "The mylo personal communicator puts the fun parts of a computer in the palm of your hand", explains director of product marketing and personal communication devices at Sony Electronics. "It's ideal for people who want to stay connected to their online friends and family, but not be weighed down by a PC or buffeted by charges for IM and texting on cell phones."

Mylo will be available in September 2006 and will retail for US$350.

seiko comp watch - Image 1seiko comp watch - Image 2

You know how the hot fashion styles of the 80s look so goofy today? It holds true for gadgets as well. Take the early cell phones. Is there anything cooler than a guy talking to his mobile the size and weight of bricks? And then there's the watch with computer developed by SEIKO in 1984. The wrist watch with computer UC 2100 has a QWERTY keyboard and uses the small screen of the watch as a monitor. We're not really sure what else it could do but we're guessing, not much.

We can almost see some gadget freak strutting down the street, flashing his shiny new toy, basking in the oohs and aaahs of gawkers. More than 20 years later, the watch with computer looks as silly as frizzy hair and the "Valley Girl" craze. Makes you wonder what people were drinking back in the 80s.

pdaThe Motorola Q is being touted as "the coolest smartphone in America."  Besides being a cell phone, it will play your music files and allow you to access your e-mail - all for a price tag starting at $200. The downside is that the service plan - by Verizon - is pricey.

At 2.5 inches long, a 1/2 inch thick and weighing in at 4-ounces, the Q has a 320-by-240 pixel screen and a raised, angled QWERTY keyboard.  Like the BlackBerry, there is a side scroll wheel and button,  and it shares the Palm Treo's  five-way cursor pad above the keyboard. Both can be used for navigating, so Q can be used with one hand without too much trouble.

Sound quality for both music and voice is reportedly excellent, and features the wireless Bluetooth technology. And, as if this were not enough, you can take reasonably good pictures with its 1.3-megapixel camera.  49 megabytes of on-board storage will allow you to keep a good number of your photos until downloading them to your PC. Battery life is 5 hours and 25 minutes.

The biggest downside is the cost of the service plans; Verizon's least expensive runs $79 a month for 450 minutes, so unless this comes down a bit, don't expect this PDA to sweep the country just yet.
