Mac Book Pro - Image 1

Now that Intel's anticipated "Santa Rosa" Centrino Pro notebook Platform is out, adopters of the said platform  should be able to experience better battery life, faster Core 2 Duo processors and chipsets, improved graphics, stronger wireless signals, and an option to turbo-speed boot time and software application loading. As others have said, they had us at better battery life.

Santa Rosa notebooks are expected to emerge in a variety of prices, designs, and sizes, ranging from media centric 17-inch screen laptops to energy saving ultra-light notebook PCs.

Amusingly, Apple zealots also number among those eagerly awaiting intel's new platform. It is widely believed that the first Apple notebook design to incorporate Santa Rosa features should be Apple's rumored update (AppleInsider thinks the alleged update is likely) to its 15-inch MacBook Pro, which should arrive during the second quarter of this year.

The update should have a faster 800MHz frontside bus, a second generation Core 2 Duo mobile processor, which ranges up to 2.4 GHz with 4MB of L2 cache. Yes, much is in store for Mac folks, all thanks to Intel.

We've previously reported on the Santa Rosa "adoption" of Apple as a rumor, however, as more reports are coming in, it seems that it is something that's already expected.

Alienware sports developer machines in 2007 GDC - Image 1

Alienware makes developers drool and accountants pat their pockets as the extreme gaming PC brand tout their latest Banzai runners catering to the people attending the 2007 Game Developers Conference. While these puppies were made to roll-over for developers, you can't quite shake off the feeling that the system would be a nasty addition to your computing collection.

Workstations, playstations; with quad-core Intel Xeons, Core 2 Duo Mobile, and AMD Opterons, the MJ-12 8550i, m5790, and MJ-12 8550a (resectively) all pack the multi-core powerhouse needed for creating games and playing them. Graphics are powered by FireGL and Quadro FX cards, with the Radeon X1900 for the laptop. Seeing CryEngine 2 on one of these is bound to be a visual tart. And what about those SAS drives? SATA never had it this good.

Of course, these things cost an arm, a leg and your noggin', so we guess you could always settle for the cheaper options. For more info, click the "Read" link below.

Versu Richelieu is a builder of worlds. She's like the Architect from the Matrix. For 72 hours, she lived in the store window of Datavision at 5th Ave. and E 39th St. (New York, NY 10018). And for 72 hours, she built a virtual world around her.

Oh tell me why... Do we build castles in the sky... Oh tell me why... All the castles way up high.

She built a Second Life virtual version of her little store window. Then she built the building and the streets around. And acre by acre, she built the city around her.

Oh tell me why... Do we build castles in the sky... Oh tell me why... All the castles way up high.

Watch the end of the third day (that would be the end of the second video). We were impressed.

It was part of a marketing activity for the Intel Centrino Duo laptop with the Intel Core 2 Duo processor (that explains why her room is wallpaper with Intel signs and why the laptop she used was a Intel Centrino Duo laptop with the Intel Core 2 Duo processor). Did we just repeat ourselves there? Deja vu. Must be glitch in the Matrix.

We're hoping the next project will be 7 days long. We'd like to see her create the world in 7 days (she can rest on the last day).

This product seems to be aimed at people who are mostly affluent and certainly serious about creating an intense experience with their home theater system. While Okoro products, like the GX300 (the worlds fastest HTPC [Home Theater PC]), may not yet be household names, the company's focus on using state of the art components to build quality entertainment systems will likely impress most home entertainment aficionados. Since Okoro is aiming for a high end demographic segment as its customer base, its products are mainly cutting edge and made using the most recent advances in digital technology.

The TH550 and TH540 are Okoro HTPCs that run on XP Media Center Edition utilize the E6400 and E6300 Intel Core 2 Duo processors, and have a GB of ram a piece. They come in a single, black enclosure that resembles a stereo component and offer wireless and high definition capabilities. The GX300, with its faster (nearly 3Ghz) X6800 Core 2 Duo processor, large touchscreen display, up to 4GB of low latency ram, two 512MB Nvidia 7950GX2 graphics cards (with SLi board of course), and up to 2TB of storage, is in league with the ultimate in home entertainment. To be fair, every Okoro HTPC comes complete with separate graphics and sound cards and is equipped to be every bit as powerful and versatile as today's workstations and desktops.

Power is not the only thing that was addressed during the design stage for the latest round of Okoro HTPCs. Quiet, cool operation was also a goal that was pursued at least as diligently as power and speed. According to Christopher Curry, VP of Sales and Operations,"Our new digital entertainment systems run up to 40 percent faster and quieter than our previous generation. This allows us to provide an unrivaled multimedia experience to all of our customers.” Also included with the package is DTS technology that allows for the "playback of 7.1 HD audio, HDPC compliant video playback and ATSC recording capabilities."

The emergence of the HTPC heralds a new era in home entertainment. Convergence is affecting more than just our PDAs and cellphones nowadays. Our computers are finally starting to merge with other common devices found within the home. As with other technologies, price will most likely keep mainstream buyers away from many high end digital entertainment products for now. Given some time in the market and a reduction in price, comprehensive digital entertainment systems like these could certainly become as common place in America as the home entertainment and home theater systems of today.

dmSporting a top of the line ATI Radeon X1900 Crossfire graphics solution and equipped with a system wide intercooler that "silently cools the Core 2 Duo processor, ATI Crossfire graphics cards and motherboard chipset," the Omen i121 Extreme is no everyday PC.

To be quite honest with you, I would submit to torture and allow myself to get molested in order to get my hands on one of these! I would sell my soul to the... well you get the picture. This thing is incredible! What's worse? The bloody Radeons come pre-overclocked and paired with a Gigabyte of discreet memory to share between them.

All of this power is cooled by a silent system wide intercooler and an advance chamber airflow layout that "allows the system to operate at peak efficiency without draining excess power."

It's really just too much for me to take, to think of all the options available when customizing is enough to make me have a coronary!

The Core 2 Duo processor is said to be up to 40 percent more efficient than its predecessor the Core Duo; on top of that you have the Crossfire, the Radeon X1900's and an efficient cooling system backed up by a company with a reputation for delivering what they promise. One day, after I hit the lottery, I'm going to be calling Voodoo!
