Apple's iPhone - Image 1The buzz over Apple's new product - the iPhone - and the recent pullback in the equity markets make investors feel encouraged about buying Apple stocks. But analysts warn: buying the stock now solely on the faith of this new product could come back to haunt investors' portfolio later in the year.

Apple plans to sell as much as 10 million units by the year 2008, a goal considered conservative. Analysts insist, however, that a closer look at the handset market may prove that such a goal may be too lofty even for a consumer electronics powerhouse like Apple.

The iPhone is considered a smart phone due to its high price and multifunction capabilities. Although smart phone sales increased by 42 percent since 2004, smart phone sales represent only 10 percent of the total number of handsets sold last year.

The way that the iPhone is only available through AT&T's Cingular Wireless service is also limiting for iPhone sales. Other factors that may not make the iPhone sell as well as planned are its high price, and the credibility of the competing smart phone makers such as Nokia, Palm and Motorola.

Analysts advice to avoid Apple’s stock until it is certain that the iPhone will sustain a high level of growth.

telenav HP iPAQ hw6920 now comes even more handy with a TeleNav GPS Navigator Service from Cingular. We visited the site and found that  you could actually try this service free for a month if you got the hw6920.

The Telenav service already runs on other third party wireless providers such as SouthernLINC Wireless, Sprint Nextel, and Boost Mobile. The service costs you US$ 9.99 -- a very affordable price compared to a GPS system hooked up to your mobile gadget (that may cost around a minimum of US$ 300).

If you make a wrong turn whether you're driving or on foot, the Telenav will automatically reroute you. If you're out of cash or needed some gas, it will direct you to the nearest ATM or gas stations. The thing has got all the makings of an extremely functional GPS tool -- right down to the digital compass that tells you where you're heading and your current speed. With the hot HP iPAQ hw6920 to back you up, you won't be lost even if you're spending the holiday at Zanzibar.

iPAQHP's latest Pocket PC, the iPAQ hw6940, is now being sold at the HP website. The device costs $599 and is available with several carriers. Apparently Cingular will also sell it in their official store soon. Some of the pictures we've seen over the couple past months actually showed the Cingular logo, so you decide.

The store has the following information: "The HP iPAQ hw6900 Mobile Messenger provides all the essentials to keep your business running even when you're away from the office -- phone, e-mail, and more secure access to business-critical information. At the same time, let your HP iPAQ keep life fun using GPS Navigation, the HP Photosmart Camera, and Microsoft Windows Media Player 10 Mobile to play your digital music and videos."

You might recall that this created a hype before, so we'll see how this turns out. No word on releases in other territories yet either. But don't worry, we'll keep you informed, so just check QJ regularly for your daily dose of Pocket PC info.

polpotKorea, always a leader in the tech industry, has spawned yet another innovative product. Known as the IM-H100, this USB device grants users access to 3G HSDPA networks (like the one run by Cingular in the US).

Currently, there are precious few solutions that provide access to the newest generation of wireless broadband  networks. As we've mentioned here before, Verizon offers a competing flavor of wireless broadband service known as EV-DO as does Sprint (US only).

The HSDPA 3G USB Card from SK is small enough to be carried in your laptop case and is designed with flexibility in mind. The USB cord can be twisted and maneuvered into a position that keeps it out of your way and in the best spot to receive a clear signal.

With one big red dial for controls, the IM-H100 looks to be easy enough to use. However, without a port for an external antenna users will miss out on some locations because of signal attenuation that could easily be countered with an antenna.

Sometimes referred to 3.5G, HSDPA is descended from the W-CDMA standard. Speeds achieved by HSDPA are currently similar to EV-DO's top speeds. HSDPA tops out at around 1Mbit per second in bursts, with sustained download speeds between 400 and 700 KB per second.

Verizon and Sprint both have EV-DO networks currently up and running. In fact, Verizon is in the process of upgrading its network to the next generation of its EV-DO technology called revision A.

Cingular is playing catch up with its network, which is scheduled to be in most major cities by the end of this year. Similar to EV-DO, HSDPA is also an evolutionary technology.

UMTS universal mobile telecommunications system is the basis for the HSDPA technology and since the technology is backwards compatible, upgrade costs are lower and handsets and modems are compatible with each generation of the standard.
