The Dead Sea Scrolls are coming back to life with the restoration project being commenced by Israel's Antiquities Authority. Using high-tech cameras, they will photograph each fragment of the scrolls, and the best part is it will be made available for public viewing over the Internet. |

Everything's mini now, it goes to follow that they run on minibatteries as well. But there's no such thing as minibatteries... right? Wrong. MIT researchers have just created this breakthrough technology, and they used viruses for it. |

There just might be another way for us to harvest solar energy and infrared radiation for us to be able to transform it into viable energy. Yes, as in we can use it for electricity - charge our iPods with it, make our cars run on it. This technology is the nanoantenna and the scientists from the US Department of Energy's Idaho National Laboratory thinks this just might be it. |

Samsung's ultra-sexy Monochrome Laser Printer, the ML -1630, was introduced to the market just about three weeks ago. And since the cool folks always want to hang out with each other, it comes as no surprise to find Apple taking Samsung's cool dude on board -- exclusively. So what's in the ML-1630 that would make the Apple Store keep it all to its lonely self? Speed is one. Don't believe it? Try printing up to 17 pages per minute. And then there's the hi-speed USB 2.0 connectivity. Of course, it doesn't hurt to be compatible with your Mac, too, and houses a memory of 8MB. It's laser printer quality is also up to 1200 x 1600 dpi. Sounds like a good partnership here, don't it? Anyhow, the world's slimmest monochrome laser printer can be had through the Apple Store at about US$ 200. Check it out via our Read link below. |

Don Elkund's, executive VP of advanced technologies for Sony Pictures, logic is simple. The HD DVD format is good, but Toshiba (or Tosh, as he so familiarly puts it) can't keep on dropping prices to attract consumers. While the competition, Blu-ray, is definitely more expensive, the fact of the matter is that consumers are willing to pay that extra cost if it will turn out to be a profitable investment for them in the long run. Meanwhile, Acer has joined their side with the announcement of selling their PCs with Blu-ray drives. His conclusion, therefore? To invite Toshiba and Microsoft to join the Blu-ray camp. Jaw-dropping, eh? But that's not all. Rich Marty, VP for new business development, chimes in: "The DVD format was good, but profitability only lasted for a couple of years before there was no money to be had in the hardware market. We believe consumers are smart enough to realize the benefits and pay the extra accordingly." Nor are they worried about movie downloads via the internet. According to their calculations, Blu-ray has a good eight to 10 years ahead of the internet before it could catch up and entice audience to download instead of buying the format. "People aren't interested in downloading videos at the moment. The internet is a good way of delivering music but not video." Yes, kids. Confidence is the key. |

And so the glass ceiling breaks. Just when everybody thought that Blu-Ray has finally won over the battle, a bomb drops in the form of two of biggest producers and distributors of filmed entertainment, Paramount Pictures and DreamWorks Animation. The two major outfits have announced today that they will be supporting the HD DVD format - exclusively. From their press release circulating the internet, they revealed that the decision "resulted from an extensive evaluation of current market offerings, which confirmed the clear benefits of HD DVD, particularly its market-ready technology and lower manufacturing costs." Titles like "Blades of Glory", "Transformers" and "Shrek the Third" will be debuting in your home entertainment centers very soon via HD DVD. Chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures, Brad Grey, expounds on their decision: The combination of Paramount and DreamWorks Animation brings a critical mass of current box office hits to consumers with a line-up of live action and animated films that are perfect for HD DVD... Part of our vision is to aggressively extend our movies beyond the theater, and deliver the quality and features that appeal to our audience. I believe HD DVD is not only the affordable high quality choice for consumers, but also the smart choice for Paramount. The only exception to this whole exclusivity deal would be those films directed by Steven Spielberg. The renowned director's works are not exclusive to either the HD DVD or Blu-ray. Expect Paramount to send out new release day and dates, and catalog titles for your HD DVD viewing pleasure in the coming days. It looks like the fight isn't over, then. Bring it on! (It's already been buhrought!) Tip by whoelse, thanks! |
