Toshiba set to lose 1 billion after dropping HD DVD - Image 1

At the beginning of the year, Warner Bros. announced its decision to go Blu-ray exclusive, sparking an unfortunate series of events for its rival format, HD DVD. It wasn't long before one of HD DVD's largest supporters, Toshiba, decided to withdraw as well.

It's no secret that this decision hit Toshiba hard. A previous figure from Reuters estimated their losses to reach hundreds of millions of dollars. However, it may have been more accurate to say that the figure was close to a billion.

According to the newest estimate announced by Nikkei Business Daily, Toshiba will likely lose a hefty figure of JP¥ 100 billion, equivalent to US$ 986 million, just shy of a billion US dollars. Toshiba, however, still hasn't commented on how accurate this estimated figure is.
