Their choice. If you haven't seen this (it's been around for months), then meet the Hammerhead, the Lego CD thrower. Impressive, isn't it? The CD break on impact - it probably hurts a bit to be hit with one. And it's only one of 10 cool Lego creations featured at OddPeak. These are projects that push the limits of the world's beloved bunch of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene thermoplastic interlocking blocks and gears (in related news, Lego star wars makes the list of top 5 games based on movies).
Their choice. There's also the Bluetooth Lego car - a Bluetooth mouse acts like a remote control for the Lego car (that's the YouTube video below, left).
Our choice. We're a bit disappointed that one of our favorites did not make their list - the Rube Goldberg Lego conveyor system (that's the YouTube video below, right). While the CD thrower is direct, this one is, um, extremely roundabout. Its usefulness? Well, it certainly impresses the kids - and engineers.
The remaining eight are:
a working harpsichord (yes, this keyboard musical instrument constructed of 100,000 blocks really works - only the piano strings aren't Lego),
a pinball machine (everything is Lego except for the glass ball),
a Babbage Difference Machine (a prototype computer),
a lie detector (using the 9v Lego motor),
a functioning Lego computer,
a Lego USB drive (basically your ordinary USB stuck into two Lego blocks),
a functioning Lego air conditioner (a functioning replica of a Carrier unit), and
a vending machine (with coin slot telling you how much you've put in).
