Sony's 11-inch XEL-1 OLED TV - Image 1

As an answer to Samsung's prediction that Sony will be unable to deliver OLED TVs to consumers this year, Sony recently unveiled the XEL-1, the company's first OLED TV. Officially launched in Japan last month, the 11-inch Sony XEL-1 OLED TV could also head to North American retail within this year.

This comes from Sony Electronics President Stan Glasgow. At a roundtable discussion at the Sony Club in New York, Glasgow said that Sony OLED TVs could come to North America before the end of the year. An early North American launch hinges on foreign demand and panel supply. It also wouldn't hurt if the OLED is received favorably in Japan.

The Sony XEL-1 OLED TV is available now in Japan for around 200,000 yen (US$ 1,750). Features include a 3-millimeter thin 960 x 540 resolution display and 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio.

to be the cool guy who bought the pricey display device.

anyways, whats the use of having a thin LCD if it has a bulky BASE? laptops already have these, thin lcd's and the base has the processor parts. most laptop can be equipped with a pci/usb tv adaptor that accepts composite and svideo inputs.
later when technology becomes cheaper there will also be component/rgb/hdmi/dvi input cards for the mass market, and that thing above will just be a regular uncool display.
oh and laptops can have way higher resolutions like 1080p and such. this item will go the way of those vaio home entertainment systems, cool at first then set aside later.
