Samsung Electronics recently made its mark on the digital display industry as it introduced a new technology utilizing a thin-film transistor liquid crystal display called "Blue Phase". The Korean manufacturer will show off the new Blue Phase LCD technology at the upcoming Society for Information Display (SID) 2008 symposium at Los Angeles from May 18 to May 23.Blue Phase technology essentially makes use of more natural moving images at a higher image-driving speed of 240 Hertz; twice the speed of current LCD standards. The highly cost-effective LCD model no longer requires liquid crystal alignment layers to display high quality images. The new Blue Phase mode can make its own alignment layers, eliminating the need for any mechanical alignment and rubbing processes. This considerably lowers production costs as well as reduce the possibility of bruising the LCD panel interface. The prototype of this new liquid crystal display mode will be unveiled on a 15" model at the SID 2008 international Symposium, Seminar and Exhibition. Samsung has drawn up plans on rolling out its Blue Phase LCD by 2011. |
