Just when you thought Samsung's latest digital SLR camera couldn't get any bigger and better, there have been hints that the South Korea-based company plans on creating a new professional DSLR, complete with a full-frame sensor.

Rumors of this new design started late last year when Samsung Electronics set up a team within Suwon to begin research on this new DSLR camera. Kyong-Kook Shin, assistant manager of Samsung's digital camera marketing planning group, backed this up by suggesting that the firm plans on using a full frame CMOS sensor (a.k.a. an active pixel sensor) intended for use in a professional camera.

The proposed camera will be co-developed with Pentax, which currently has a pretty good relationship with Samsung. Considering the high quality of Pentax' current K20D line, it will certainly be interesting to see the product of a joint collaboration between the two companies.

However, there's been no word so far when the actual camera will arrive. Here's a quote taken from Amateur Photographer technical writer Barney Britton after attending an industry event in Korea last April 2:

Although there is no indication yet as to when it might arrive, it seems now that photographers can look forward to a professional full-frame DSLR with a Pentax lens mount at some point in the future.

Commercial director of Samsung UK Robert King's statement concurred with this by mentioning that the company cannot provide further comment regarding the future product development at this time.
