Pioneer reveals new Blu-ray player with HD audio bitstream output

Pioneer has finally revealed the Blu-ray player that they hinted at with the launch of the BDP-LX70. The new player is called the BDP-LX80, and here are the pertinent info on it.

Pioneer's BDP-LX80 Blu-ray player supports bitstream output of both Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD high resolution lossless audio output over HDMI 1.3. The player doesn't have DTS-HD Master Audio, though, and in order to really take advantage of it you'll need a home system capable of decoding those signals. That's something that potential buyers should confirm before taking the plunge and getting the BDP-LX80.

Early reports about the player have noted that the BDP-LX80 seems to be a mere firmware update for the LX70, so you might want to see further reviews when the player drops in Japan in October. It currently carries a suggested retail price of 210,000 Yen (about US$ 1,770). A global launch for the player has not yet been announced.
