On Blu-Ray - Image 1

What will tickle your Blu-ray sensibilities this week? We all know horror titles are best appreciated when watched alone in the dark. But last week's fright fest may have prompted you to gather your buddies to share those screams. Well, if you have a thing for camaraderie, this week's batch of Blu-ray titles is for you.

An armored polar bear and an orphan on a mission to save a kidnapped friend from a daemon-filled world. A complicated bank heist flawlessly orchestrated by eleven people. None of these adventures can be accomplished single-handedly. Expect a lot of teamwork and friendship with the latest brew of Blu-ray releases.

Golden Compass, Ocean's Eleven, and Ocean's Twelve headline seven fresh Blu-ray titles for the week of April 28 to May 4, 2008. We've got you covered with a rundown of these noteworthy titles.

You should be familiar with the Academy Award-winning film Golden Compass if you're a fan of Philip Pullman's trilogy novel, His Dark Materials. Join the little orphan Lyra as she tries to save her friend by traveling to the frozen North where talking polar bears and a beautiful villain in Nicole Kidman await. Take note that this is the first part of a trilogy so you wouldn't want to miss this.

The 2001 film Ocean's Eleven assembles an all-star cast featuring George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, and Julia Roberts, among others. As far as bank heists are concerned, this is one of the most elaborate to appear on the silver screen. Clooney heads a team of eleven specialists to raid a high security US$ 150 million vault. It's no secret that they will succeed, but how they pull it off is what's worth watching.

By raiding the vault, Clooney was able to regain the love of her former flame in Julia Roberts - which brings us to the sequel Ocean's Twelve. However, the vault's owner got to them and is demanding payback with interest. To get the money, the all-star cast reunites to steal the world's oldest stock certificate. But not before another thief gets to it first.

There are more treats for you to watch with your group of friends. Indulge yourself with concert cuts from the rock band Motley Crue or renditions of the classic mind Mozart. Love stories get more coverage with a story about a perpetual bridesmaid in 27 Dresses and the classic King Arthur-Guinevere-Lancelot love triangle in First Knight.

Here is a recap of this week's fresh releases:

  • The Golden Compass (New Line Cinema)
  • Ocean's Eleven (Warner Bros.)
  • Ocean's Twelve (Warner Bros.)
  • 27 Dresses (20th Century Fox)
  • First Knight (Sony Pictures)
  • Motley Crue: Carnival of Sins (Warner Music)
  • Mozart: Die Zauberflote (The Magic Flute) (Opus Arte)

 » Oceans.

What about the Oceans box set that came out, were number 11 and 12 in blu-ray or what? Or are the ones in box set blu-ray, just that these are being released individually?

The box set included Ocean's Eleven, Twelve and Thirteen. (Thirteen was also released separately during that week.)

And yeah, this Eleven and Twelve releases are individual ones. :)
