Excellent mobility and interactive existence as workmate (Hitachi">EMIEW 2), Hitachi's diminutive new robot, crashed into office furniture during a recent demonstration in front of reporters. The problem apparently stemmed from the EMIEW 2's inability to communicate properly with its Hitachi handler due to interference with its wireless network communication.
The EMIEW 2 demonstration was held at Hitachi's research center around lunch time, and the resulting traffic in Hitachi's wireless network at the time led to a communications jam between EMIEW 2 and its handler's laptop. EMIEW 2 ended up crashing into an office desk as Japanese reporters looked on.
Fortunately, Hitachi and EMIEW 2 were able to save face during a second, more successful demonstration after lunch break. Hitachi developers admitted that while EMIEW 2 had performed well during test runs, there were still certain kinks that needed to be worked out.
