LG logo - Image 1The Blu-ray disc-writing fever is beginning to catch on as LG Electronics introduces its two latest optical media devices with a product model. Its Blu-ray Recordable (BD-R) and Blu-ray rewritable (BD-RE) are set for market release soon and some nice features have been dropped.

Both the recordable and rewritable Blu-ray discs have a 25GB storage capacity. Both also have a protective coating that shields the recording surface from scratches, fingerprints, and dirt to avoid playback errors.

The LG BD-RE is set to cost about 20,000 Korean won (US$ 21.65) per disc while the BD-R is projected to run somewhere in the neighborhood of 13,000 won (US$ 14). Both products will be compatible with most Blu-ray burners currently in the market. An LG representative said:

With this latest addition of recordable Blu-ray media, our category expertise allows us to help our customers navigate the full line-ups from PCs to drives, guaranteeing they have the right products at retail stores.

Blu-ray is currently the leading next-generation format in the market, dominating competitor HD-DVD in most territories of contention.
