Weighing in at 8 gigabits of single-level celled (SLC) high speed NAND technology, Intel Corporation and Micron Technology, Inc. has announced the development of the world's fastest NAND product to date.

The new SLC high speed NAND can read data of up to 200 megabytes per second, with a write speed of up to 100 megabytes per second. The new NAND more than doubles the read and write speed of today's conventional NAND products which is limited to only 40 MB/s for reading data and less than 20 MB/s for writing data.

Intel's and Micron's new 8 Gb SLC high speed NAND is currently being sampled to major OEMs and controller manufacturers and is expected to be mass produced by the second half of 2008. Bill Lauer, senior director of marketing for Micron's memory group had this to say on their new product:

With the new capabilities designed into high speed NAND, the performance benefits will be visible to the consumer, allowing them to experience a faster way of transferring digital content between devices such as computers, digital cameras, MP3 players and cell phones.
