Sony has officially announced that the BRAVIA LCD TV production installation in Trnava, Slovakia will have its annual manufacturing capacity improved by another 100% in an attempt to meet European demand for its revitalized LCD TV line.

Unfortunately, the old plant at Trnava won't suffice for the upgrade, so the consumer electronics giant probably thought, hey, let's build another facility to house around 3,500 employees to meet our production strategy.

And so they did. This year, they're relocating their production capacity to the Nitra Technology Center in Nitra, Slovakia - a compound some 40 kilometers away from Trnava. The Nitra facility has been manufacturing BRAVIA LCD TVs since August 2007.

The Trnava and Nitra facilities produced around two million sets a year, but the expansion of the production capacity at Nitra should bring that number to a little over four million sets annually. That's four million sets every 12 months for the market that Sony considers the biggest for the BRAVIA line.

Sony claims that the Nitra facility will produce all the models of BRAVIA, including the latest E4000 series, whose design currently caters to the European public. But that's not all - they even plan to finish the construction of a logistics center adjacent to the Nitra Technology Center, and convert the facility into the main hub for Sony's pan-European TV operations.

Its significance will soon encompass Sony TV engineering, distribution, as well as its improved production capabilities for both Eastern and Western Europe. Get updated on developments as we come across them.
