Sony Electronics has just announced the arrival of a new wave of Blu-ray disc writers in the Japanese market. While the details have been reported before, the identifiable name of the new models weren't given. So welcome BDZ-X90 - Sony's new, top-of-the-line Blu-ray burners.

As said before, the new Blu-ray writers come with standard-issue hard drives which range from 250GB to 500GB in storage space. They're projected to cost somewhere between US$ 1,200 to US$ 1,800 which is not far from how much HD-DVD writers are priced. The BDZ-X90 has the heftiest hardware chops but it also carries the biggest price tag.

The new Sony Blu-ray recorders are planned to hit the European and the American markets in the future, though Sony did not disclose when exactly. We'll give you an update as soon as we dig up more news.
