Photofast's Memory adapter - Image 1

How would you like 32 GB of storage on your PSP? That sounds like an impossibility, right? Well, we recently picked up an email and some pictures from tipster Hitori Futari, who made mention of a special adapter that can do just that.

Here's the pertinent portion of his email for you to look at:

Stumbled over this gadget which makes external harddrives for PSP pretty much obsolete. Taiwanese based company Photofast offers an adapter that can hold up to 4 SDHC memory cards, totalling in 32 GB storage for your PSP! Combine 2x 8GB SDHC in 1 of their Dual Slot adapters and double that!

They also announced that it could soon go up to 64 GB max. storage!! But that's not official news, one of the sales guys leaked that through... He also said that they continually implement Sony's latest standards in order to keep their products compatible with any Sony device. Should be a pretty safe bet if that's true. Besides that, using their MS Pro Duo adapter CR-5300 saves you quite some bucks since SDHCs are much cheaper than Sony's official memory sticks.

This bit of information certainly seems like something straight out of a dream. Imagine what you could do with potentially 32 GB of storage on your PSP (heck, even the 16 GB pointed out in the pictures below is a big difference)! That's a couple of movies, music, and some homebrew right there.

In any event, expect us to keep tabs on this intriguing development. Folks, you better hope this comes out in your region, because it'd be such a shame if we didn't get to see this on PSPs everywhere.

doesn't look so bad on the back of the psp like that.

Does it support MagicGate?

The PSP is limited to 32GB as of now. Awesome lil adapter. kinda makes me wish i didn't get the 16gb memory stick

   Re: FreePlay - 2008-06-05
 » ...?

FAT16's maximum disk size is 2GB... FAT32's is 127.6GB.

Where are you getting this limit from?

   Re: ultimax - 2008-06-05
 » The limit

FreePlay's right, I think Frosty confused Sony's estimated limits of the current Memory Stick Duo technology with the amount the PSP could deal with.

   Re: xxxmrgamerxxx - 2008-06-05
 » maybe. . .

i think frosty is referring to the firmware's capacity, as before the psp couldn't handle memory past 8gb until sony fixed it in an update.

   Re: Advertising - 2008-06-05
» Both are sort of right..

The psp had a hardware limitation at 8GB on earlier than 2.8 firmwares it was increased with software by sony. Later DAX did a patch to increase it to like a TB..

Freeplay also said that all PS3 games are at least 720p (after GTAIV was shown to be lower) so I wouldn't really listen to what he/she has to say.

" Freeplay also said that all PS3 games are at least 720p (after GTAIV was shown to be lower) so I wouldn't really listen to what he/she has to say."

Do I really need to take a photo of my Bravia showing that GTA IV is output at 720p?

Idiot.

There you go, numbuts.

   Re: Billie - 2008-06-07
 » @freeplay

Dude, TVs always upscale to its native resolution, so your picture doesn't prove this game is running at 720p. When I hook up a DVD to my TV it will also say that it is at 720p, when we in fact know that it is barely 480p. GTAIV on the PS3 runs at 630p and the xbox at 720p:

No. My TV's native resolution is 1080p.

the title is so misleading 64gb is possible

thats like saying human teleportation is possible
anyway im happy with 2 gb at the moment
i dont watch videos, listen to music or play games
infact i dont know why i even have the psp, other then for developing, but thats it

 » Uhhh...

That contraption looks retarded. How the F**K can you play games with a huge thing sticking out of the side. It looks even more awkward on a slim come to think about it.

   Re: Addy771 - 2008-06-05
 »

And I'll bet you're one of the morons who buys a slim because the phat is "too bulky" for you.

Take a look at the other pictures before you judge the product, dipshit. It's the size of a normal MS pro duo, and it takes two micro SD cards.

   Re: raggedjimmi - 2008-06-06
 » -

Yea it's a bit pointless. I don't want something so slim and delicate handing out of my PSP especially when playing games. A bad idea really.

   Re: c74gta4smash - 2008-06-06
 » Who's the real moron?

Uh dip*****, I mentioned the slim. I didn't say anything about owning one if you read my comment thoroughly. And FYI...
I have both the fat and the slim. So You can suck it pal.

   Re: xche78x - 2008-06-06
 » sorry

i cant help but laugh out loud on these comments.
i have one of these photofast microSDHC to MSDuo Adapters and they almost work perfectly fine.
point of this cheap adapter is you just nid to purchase 1 or 2 pieces (depends on your photofast adapter model, one is single or the dual) of those MicroSDHC cards (way cheaper than Original Memstick) insert em inside the adaptor that looks identical to a MS pro duo and stick em adaptor unto the psp, NOTHING WILL STICK OUT! perfect fit.

and since 32gb microSDHC will be the norm later, we can opt to use 2 of those and put em inside the dual photofast adapter for 64gb goodness.
Custom firmware users will have no problem using these products.

   Re: death - 2008-06-10
 » ur retardid

its the size of a normal ms pro so it fits into your psp
   by treyjazz - 2008-06-05
 » Actually

It's a 2 in 1 deal. Only 2 microSDHC cards can fit in one adapter and the reader strapped to the back of the Slim PSP is to allow 2 of the adapters (or maybe a combination of adapters and/or real MSPDs?) to be used at the same time. So if you just need to use 2 microSDHCs then you don't need to use the reader.

There is already a 16gb MS Pro Duo being sold

   Re: xche78x - 2008-06-06
 » yeah

and we can buy 32gb microsdhc + photofast microsdhc to msduo adaptor for the same price as your 16gb sony msduo.
   by NA1NSXR - 2008-06-06
 » like other adapters

this is likely to be too slow for what most of us with big memory cards use them for

   Re: xche78x - 2008-06-06
 » hehe not really

in my experience i think the PSP is too slow for the fast microSDHC and the adaptor is just a case converter, no major circuitry conversion involved hence no loss in speed.

there are just some things the psp doesnt support on the sdhc, all media and iso's are playable.

 » retarded...

erm it doesn't stick out if you look closely, it sticks out for demonstration purpose... i saw other pics where you can clearly see how it all slides in and closes neatly

   by kloplop321 - 2008-06-06
 » erm..

well... yeah the title is misleading but if you REALLY had to you can get
4 8-gig MicroSD cards with $50.25 each
being about $200, which is more than the worth of the PSP
or you could get a single 8 gig memory card for the PSP for $84.99

I would choose the photofast thing and get like 2 8 gig cards, I am doing well with just 4 gigs in my PSP though lol

   Re: Billie - 2008-06-09
 » well...

"I would choose the photofast thing and get like 2 8 gig cards, I am doing well with just 4 gigs in my PSP though lol"

Or, you can get a 8 gig microSD card for 39.99 on amazon, and still have a slot ready for future expansion with this device. This puts it way under your PSP memory stick.

 » mmm.

that 2 in 1 card adapter thing, how will i fit my go!cam on it if that's in use? i'd just go get a 16gb and deal with the price. who knows if these cards are MagicGate supported? my 4gb isn't MagicGate supported. that sucks cause the psp reads it slower.

   Re: MikeyMike01 - 2008-06-11
 » .

You could use 2 cards in the adapter and not have absolutely ANYTHING sticking out. Anywhere. At all.

The thing on the back is if you want FOUR memory cards.

*****ing retards.
